Todos Santos: The Quiet Luxury Escape Cabo Isn’t
Every year, Kyle and I gift each other the same thing for Christmas: an end-of-year trip together. Sometimes it’s just one night away, sometimes more, but it’s our tradition. Right after Christmas, before the year really begins, we get out of town. It’s our time to pause, reflect, and set intentions for what’s next.
After a full year of living in San Francisco instead of San Diego, and balancing two pretty intense jobs, we needed this trip more than ever. We wanted warmth, nature, and calm. An easy flight. Adults-only energy. Somewhere beautiful, but not loud. Mexico felt right. Cabo didn’t.
At dinner one night, a friend said, “I have the perfect place.” That place was Kimpton Mas Olas in Todos Santos, about 45 minutes north of Cabo. One easy flight, a short drive, and suddenly everything slows down. Here’s how we structured a three-day stay focused on rest, movement, and starting the year off right.
Arrival: Immediate Exhale
The moment you arrive at Mas Olas, you feel it. You’re surrounded by palms, desert plants, and ocean air, and it genuinely feels like an oasis. Not a resort that’s trying too hard, just calm, intentional, and beautifully done.
The property has three distinct pool areas, each with its own vibe:
A large infinity pool overlooking the ocean with a swim-up bar, submerged loungers, and a restaurant perfect for long lunches
A central breakfast pool area with two pools and a bar in between
A quieter spa and fitness pool tucked away for actual rest
When we walked into our room, it immediately felt special: high ceilings, a massive bathroom with thoughtful amenities, and a private patio with an ocean view. The kind of room you actually want to spend time in.
Night One: Sunset, Fresh Fish, and the Garden
We arrived before check-in, grabbed lunch on property (fresh fish, bright flavors), and settled in by the pool just in time for sunset. One of those immediate “we chose right” moments.
That evening, we had dinner at Botanica, the garden restaurant on property. Mas Olas grows a huge portion of their vegetables, herbs, and fruit onsite, and you really taste it. Herbs from the garden. Mint from the property (yes, even in the mint ice cream). Those same botanicals show up throughout the resort, from the spa to the bathroom products.
Everything felt thoughtful, fresh, and grounded.
Day 2: Spa, Pool, and Manifestations
We woke up naturally, read on our patio, and headed to breakfast, which was included for us and genuinely excellent. Made-to-order omelets, great coffee, fresh fruit, and beautifully prepared food.
Then: massages. Easily one of the best I’ve had. The spa itself is a dream, with a sauna, steam room, outdoor shower, and jacuzzi. After our massages, we did a cold plunge and sauna circuit that left us completely reset.
The afternoon was spent by the pool with fresh guava margaritas made from guava grown onsite, reading and relaxing. Every year, Kyle and I use this trip to reflect and goal-plan, and that afternoon we talked through the year behind us and what we want ahead.
Dinner that night was at Kahal, the ocean-facing restaurant. Fresh fish, great appetizers, and a standout dish where raw fish is cooked on a hot stone at the table.
Day 3: Move Your Body, Beach Walk, Pool
We started the day in the gym, followed by another sauna circuit and breakfast. Then a long beach walk, pool time, more reading, and no real agenda.
We had planned to go into Todos Santos town for dinner (which looks incredible), but we were so relaxed and content that we canceled and stayed on property.
Another dinner at Botanica sealed it. And yes, I ordered chicken, which I almost never do. It was, without exaggeration, the best chicken I’ve ever had.
Departure Morning
An early wake-up, one last gym session, sauna, final breakfast, and a smooth checkout. We were back at the airport by noon, already talking about when we’d come back.
Ready to Go?
This trip was exactly what we needed. It reminded me how powerful the right place can be when life feels full and fast. If you’re craving a thoughtful escape that’s easy to get to, beautifully done, and genuinely restorative, this one is hard to beat.
If Todos Santos is calling, I’m happy to help you book your stay at Kimpton Mas Olas. I’ll secure best available pricing, plus extra perks like a complimentary room upgrade (when available) and other thoughtful add-ons that make the trip even better.
